autism

I have worked with students with autism for the past nine years in the NYC Special Education District, District 75. I am familiar with the TEACCH method with students with autism. I'm also experienced with using ABA instruction. Students with autism need 1:1 instruction and/or small group instruction. I am familiar and have used PECs with students with special needs.

ADD/ADHD

I have taught students with ADD/ADHD in kindergarten through eighth grade for nine years. These students were from the New York City area and had other learning differences as well as emotional disorders. I have specific strategies to keep students focused and engaged (frequent breaks, hands on activities, cueing systems both physical and verbal, etc).


Aspergers

I have been teaching for eights years. My school is part of District 75, the New York City Department of Education’s special education district. I have worked with different age level students from K-8 with different disabilities (Emotionally Disturbed, Intellectual Disabilities, Autism (all sides of the spectrum) and Multiple Disabilities). All of the classes at P.S. 168 are self-contained. I have obtained a certification in Life Space Crisis Intervention. I have held different out-of-classroom positions such as Math Enrichment Specialist, Data Specialist, Testing Coordinator, Technology Specialist and Curriculum Specialist. I am a key member of the Instructional Cabinet and a lead teacher for the Early Childhood team. I created and implemented the Early Childhood Literacy curriculum. I have differentiated curriculum to meet the needs of all learners and used PECs and schedules for students with aspergers. Certifications: Students with Disabilities Professional New York State Certification Birth – 2nd grade (pending). Students with Disabilities Professional New York State Certification 1-6. Childhood Education Professional New York State Certification 1-6. Life Space Crisis Intervention Certification.
